Hello Lover...

Last night my friends and I drank a 2002 vintage of the Marques de Grinon Petit Verdot. I could not get a good picture of the bottle with my cell phone so I found one on the internet. If you've never had a Spanish wine, or never had a Petit Verdot, this is an excellent starting point. Typically a blending wine, this 100% Petit Verdot had my curiosity.
This sexy wine is very dark in color with smoke and red fruit on the nose with hints of leather. The palate is full bodied, with jammy fruit, yet quite balanced. As it opens, it shows herbal and meaty notes. A lot of dust and licorice on the finish.

As I continue to do this blog....I will figure out what I'm trying to say and how I want to say it....but for now it will be kind of like a plethera of tasting notes.

So....Lets

I'd like to preface this blog with..."I am not a writer"

With that said, I am going to try to entertain you with my wine knowledge and sharp wit!

Tonight I am enjoying one of my favorite budget wines ($6.99 for 750mL).
It is called La Vieille Ferme (I like to call it the 'Rooster Wine').

This clean deep cherry red wine is grown in the Southern Rhone region of France.
50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Carignan and 15% Cinsault.

The nose has a ripe dark fruit and leather. I got a little hint of popcorn.

On the palate, I get red and black plum and berry flavors with a hint earth, leather, spice and mahogany.

These characteristics could come from the soils blend of chalk debris and round stones in this region and the fact that the wine is kept in both cement vats and large oak barrels for ten months (which would explain the 'popcorn' smell).

The best way to describe this wine is to say that it is a smooth and drinkable wine with a slightly earthy edge.
It's an almost perfect everyday wine (I drink it often) that I would take to a dinner party.
